The Braves erased an eleven point 3rd qtr deficit (26-15) to take a 29-28 lead into the final stanza but failed to nail down the victory. It wasn’t for lack of effort as there were Braves from baseline to baseline virtually the entire game.
The Braves came out slow and needed Brennan Bailey’s late 3 to cut into Taylor’s 7-2 lead. The second qtr was a little more productive as the Braves managed 8 pts with the bulk of those coming on Hayden Williamson’s bomb from the wing. Taylor led 17-13 at the half. The 3rd qtr is when things got interesting. Taylor scored 9 of the first 11 pts of the second half jumping out to their largest lead at 26-15. Bailey went back to work and exploded for a pair of 3’s, a lay-up and 2-2 from the line for 10, of his game high 13, pts in the qtr to see the Braves race to the lead going into the final stanza. The Braves battled strong and had their chances, missing each of their 5 ft attempts in the qtr. A late 3pt attempt could’ve tied the game but rimmed out allowing the scrappy Taylor team to hang on for the victory.
Williamson had 5 on the night. Haiden Thompson and Mason Barnes had 4 ea. Trenton Cobble contributed 3. Mason Yoars and Richard Reimer had 2 ea. Thompson also led the team in rebounds for the second consecutive game.
The young Braves, now 1-2, return to the court Thursday at home for a 6:00 tip-off against a stout Marion Giant team.
