The Maconaquah C-Team Boy’s Basketball Team lost its 2019 opener to Mississinewa 38-28.
Brennan Bailey’s half court buzzer beater gave a lift sending the Braves to an 11-9 deficit to close out the opening qtr. Mississinewa ended the half with a put back three point play at the halftime buzzer to send the Braves to the locker room down 17-15 instead of leading 15-14. That play seemed to tell the story for the night. The Braves were just a step slow at securing the all important basketball. The young Braves didn’t give up but were unable to put consistent points on the board through the 3rd qtr and entered the final stanza with a 25-21 deficit. The Braves turned up the effort and intensity at times coming up with much needed turnovers but mishandled too often themselves offensively to cut into the lead. Ole Miss secured the 38-28 victory with good free throw shooting down the stretch.
Bailey led the Braves with 10 followed by Hayden Williamson’s 8. Trenten Cobble added 4, Mason Yoars had 3. Mason Barnes and Richard Riemer scored 2 and 1 respectively. Barnes also led the team in rebounds with 7.
The Braves fall to 2-5 on the season and return to action at Kokomo South campus for a 6:00 tip-off Wed, Jan 9 followed by a home game with Wabash on Thurs the 10th.
