The Maconaquah boys C-Team basketball drops game to Tip Valley by a 35-24 count.
It had been over two weeks since our last game and, during the recent bitter cold stretch that hit the area, the team had gone 8 days without even a practice…and it showed at both ends of the floor. Passes and cuts were not as crisp and the defense was a step slow from the start.
After Tip Valley jumped to an early 6-0 lead the closest the Braves came was 9-4 before Valley scored the final 6 of the opening qtr for a hefty 15-4 advantage.
The Braves didn’t fold and with improved defensive effort went in to the locker room at the half trailing 20-11 hoping the best was yet to come.
It looked like things might begin to go our way as an early inside score followed by another well executed post play had the Braves at the edge of cutting the lead to 20-15 and making a threat. However the second shot rimmed out and Tip Valley scored the next few possessions as they stretched their lead to 30-16 by the end of three.
A late 3pter by Mason Barnes helped give the Braves an 8-5 advantage in the final stanza for the final margin.
Perhaps the best evidence of the team’s lack of polish was at the 3pt line. The young Braves have shot a solid 31.1% as a team for the season. This game saw us hit only 1 of 15 (6.7%).
Haiden Thompson led the scoring with 9, Richard Riemer had 5 and a team high 6 rebounds, followed by 3 each from Trenton Cobble and Mason Barnes. Hayden Williamson and Brennan Bailey had 2 apiece and Mason Yoars contributed a season high 5 rebounds and a steal.
The Braves hope to “rebound” with a better effort as they close out the season Friday, Feb 8, at home against conference foe, Southwood, tipping off at 5:00.
