Game Recap

We opened up the 2016-17 season on the road against the defending 3A state champs. We knew Marion would be a big test for us, but it would be an experience the boys could gain a lot from. We did a great job in the first half of countering their scoring runs with some of our own. Late in the 2nd quarter teams were exchanging the lead until a couple empty possessions really hurt us. We went into the locker room down by 8 when we felt like it should be a tied ball game. Nonetheless, we had put together a rather good half of basketball against the 2nd ranked team in 3A. The second half was a different story though as turnovers started our downfall. Marion was getting some easy points along with catching fire from the outside, and this game quickly got out of our hands. This was a valuable experience that we can learn from for the upcoming season. Chandler Pitts led us in scoring with 19 points. He did the bulk of handling Marion’s full court pressure for us. Wyatt Hughes scored 16 points along with 8 rebounds.
