The Southwood Knights scored in every quarter Friday night enroute to a 42-9 Three Rivers Conference win over the Maconaquah Braves. The win pushed Southwood’s record to 5-3, while the Braves dropped to 1-7 on Senior Night. Maconaquah will host winless (0-8) Rochester Friday evening in TRC playoff action. The Zebras won the only meeting between both schools, 40-7, in 1998.
Maconaquah stymied Southwood’s potent offense in the first half and trailed 7-3 late in the first half before the Knights scored with 1:14 left to make it 14-3 at intermission.
Ethan Larason became the first player in MHS history to kick four field goals in a season when he booted a 21-yarder at the 2:12 mark.
Southwood scored twice in the third period making at 28-3 heading into the final quarter. A pair of TD’s early in the fourth made it 42-3, before Brave senior Joe Ferry romped in from 21 yards out with 1:16 remaining in the contest. Ferry led Mac with 101 yards on 11 carries, while running-mate Jarred Spohn rushed for 68 hard-earned yards
on 19 totes. Gemini Williams led the defense with an interception and fumble recovery.
