Game Recap

The Maconaquah Braves overcame an early 7-6 deficit by scoring the next 34 points and defeated the Taylor Titans, 40-13, for their first win of the season Friday night. Senior Jarred Spohn put the Braves on top for good, 13-7 with :50 left in the first quarter with a 47-yard TD scamper, his second score of the opening act. Gemini Williams then picked off a Titan pass and raced 90 yards to paydirt, stretching the lead to 20-7. Williams’ theft was the fourth-longest in school history. Junior kicker Ethan Larason boomed a 41-yard field goal with 7:48 showing in the second period and it was 23-7. Larason’s kick was the second-longest in school history and was his third this year, tying the single-season record. He would add a 33-yarder at the end of the third stanza. He is the first Brave to kick two field goals in a game since 1998. Joe Ferry capped a seven minute, 14-play 65-yard drive late in the game with a 15-yard TD, making it 40-7 with 2:18 left. Spohn spearheaded the Brave rushing attack with 144 yards and three TD’s on 17 carries after rushing for 122 yards in the first half. Ferry pounded the Titans for 57 second-half yards on five carries. The Brave defense was led by Matt Scott, Colin Silvers, Aaron Sedwick and Adam Bowman.
