Maconaquah High School
Wabash High School
The Maconaquah Braves fell to the unbeaten Wabash Apaches 14-0 Friday evening. The host Apaches took a 6-0 lead midway through the second quarter when Sammy Hipskind hit Justin Beauchamp with a 74 yard TD pass. The Braves threatened to tie late in the half after rcovering a fumble at the Apache nine yard line, but turned it back over to Wabash at the seven after four attempts in a downpour.
A controversial call late in the game cost the Braves as sophomore quarterback Cody Koebler had apparently tied the game 3:49 left when he scampered around the right end.
The officials ruled that Koebler fumbled before crossing the goal line and Wabash survived Maconaquah’s best effort of the season, adding the clinching score with 12 seconds left in the game after scooping up a fumble and scoring from 43 yards out. Matt Scott, Braxton Dewey, Colin Silvers and Aaron Sedwick spearheaded the Brave defense along with Ethan Larason’s punting that kept Wabash on its side of the field
most of the game. The Braves dropped to 0-4 on the year, losing all four contests to state-ranked undefeated teams. Mac travels to county rival Peru Friday night.
